HARGEISA (SD) – A state funeral was held in Hargeisa for the former President of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Silanyo,” whose death deeply affected the citizens and leaders of the country.
The body of the late president was recently taken from the hospital and brought to designated locations for commemoration before being buried in the Baqiic cemetery in Hargeisa.
The funeral of the late Silanyo is attended by international dignitaries, including leaders from neighboring and foreign countries. The outgoing President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, and opposition leaders were also present, highlighting the significant role the deceased played in the history and development of Somaliland.
Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Silanyo” served as the President of Somaliland from 2010 to 2017. He is remembered for his efforts in building the administration, developing infrastructure, and promoting internal peace. The election that led to the peaceful transfer of power to Muse Bihi Abdi became a symbol of Somaliland’s commitment to democratic principles.
The people of Somaliland and supporters from various regions are participating in the mourning, describing the deceased as a historical leader who significantly contributed to the country’s pursuit of full recognition and the strengthening of its stability.
