Puntland military court sentences Al Shabab convicts to death and imprisonment

Garowe (SD) – The military court in the five regions of Bari, Sanaag, Hayland, Karkar and Gardafuu has today sentenced to death and imprisonment three men accused of being members of Al-Shabaab and ISIS.

Aden Mohamed Hassan and Abshir Mohamed Abdirahman Tooshle, who were charged with various murders, were sentenced to death, as announced by the chairman of the military court of the five regions, Ibrahim Bile Mohamed.

Aden Mohamed Hassan, a 28-year-old from Wajir, Kenya, was accused by prosecutors of joining al-Shabaab in 2015, then switched to ISIS in 2017, and was later arrested in Bossaso.

Abshir Mohamed Abdirahman Tooshle, 47, who was born in Qandala, is also accused of inviting Adan to Bossaso.

Tooshle, who was originally a member of al-Shabaab, was arrested in 2013 along with the wife of Somalia’s ISIS leader Abdikadir Mumun, but was released and later joined ISIS.

Meanwhile, the court sentenced Mohamud Shiniyow Ali to 20 years in prison on charges of being an Al-Shabab member.

The Puntland military court said the three convicted men can appeal within 30 days.
