President Hassan addresses the 6th Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6)

NAIROBI (SD) -Today, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, delivered a speech at the 6th Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The President talked about the global impact of climate change, highlighting the risks it poses to the lives, and communities and the significant challenges faced by the Somali people.

President Hassan Sheikh highlighted the importance of countries participating in the Assembly in developing collaborative strategies to address the impact of climate change, stressing the need for international cooperation to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.

He underscored Somalia’s commitment to climate change adaptation efforts, noting that the government has enacted laws aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and implementing initiatives to protect the environment.

Additionally, he mentioned ongoing programs in Somalia aimed at combating desertification and deforestation, which began in 2022.
