Doha March 07, 2023 (SD) – The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh, in an interview with Aljazeera stated that he is willing to hold talks with Al-Shabaab.
President Hassan Sheikh emphasized that the majority of the people fighting for Al-Shabaab are young Somalis, who have no other country to live in.
He also emphasized that his government is committed to the fight against Al-Shabaab and that it has adopted a comprehensive strategy that includes military, diplomatic, and economic measures.
Moreover, in the previous year, President Hassan Sheikh Mahmud announced that his government is ready to negotiate with Al-Shabaab, but his government must regain control of the areas under their control first.
The Somali government has since reclaimed control of many areas that were previously under the control of Al-Shabaab, including areas in Hirshabelle and Galmudug.
