MOGADISHU (SD) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud today met with a delegation led by EU Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa Annette Weber accompanied by EU Ambassador to Somalia Tiina Intelmann.

Ms. Annette Weber spoke of the resumption of EU support to Somalia, highlighting the EU’s commitment to supporting the policies and development plans of the new President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Ms. Annette Weber agreed on the importance of strengthening relations between the European Union and Somalia. The President thanked the European Union for its continued support to the Government and people of Somalia.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud pledged to continue and develop plans to reform the country’s financial system, to meet all the requirements surrounding debt forgiveness in our country.

Ambassador Annette Weber is the highest-ranking EU official to visit Somalia since the collapse, demonstrating the Somali government’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with the world.
