Mogadishu March 13, 2023 (SD) – The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, attended today the National Education Conference in Mogadishu, where he stated that his government is committed to improving, integrating, and harmonizing the country’s education system.
The conference was attended by up to 250 high-level officials from various government agencies, scholars, educators, civil society representatives, and international organizations.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called for a comprehensive plan to develop education and a clear national curriculum, emphasizing the importance of educating Somali children and providing them with opportunities to learn and develop their skills.
“Our plan is to increase the number of students enrolled in schools, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds and remote areas. We also want to adopt a clear national curriculum and ensure that qualified teachers are available in sufficient numbers to teach at least 10,000 Somali teachers,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
He also stressed the importance of expanding educational opportunities for Somali youth, which he sees as vital for building the country’s future and realizing its full potential.
The Somalia President called on education experts, the Somali diaspora, and education stakeholders to work together to achieve educational goals that will lead to political stability, economic growth, social welfare, and a prosperous future for Somalia.
