MOGADISHU (SD) – Former president of HirShabelle state Mohamed Abdi Waare spoke about the GORGOR and Haramcad forces deployed by the Somali government in Beledweyne town of Hiiraan region.
The troops have caused a great deal of suspicion as to why they were deployed, though the country’s army chief, Gen. Odawa Yusuf Rage, said their aim was to fight al-Shabab.
Speaking to Universal TV, Waare said that Haramcad and Gorgor forces have been involved in several politically motivated wars on behalf of Farmajo and that they will sue the Turkish government, who trained the troop, if they commit atrocities in Beledweyne.
“The Turkish government needs to review as to why the security forces they’ve trained have deviated from their objectives in the fight against Al-Shabaab,” he said.
Somali Cabinet called for immediate withdrawal of troops from Beledweyne, Ministers, lawmakers and politicians from Hiiraan have previously opposed the deployment.
The troops are believed to be used by outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo for the Lower House elections in Beledweyne.
