JIGJIGA (SD) – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed along with a high-level delegation arrived today in Jigjiga, in the Somali Regional state of Ethiopia.
The PM Abiy Ahmed and his delegation were received by the Somali regional President Mustafa Omar, and dozens of citizens celebrating the PM’s arrival. According to the office of the Prime Minister, the delegation will be visiting drought-affected areas in the region to analyze the situation and the relief efforts being tackled.
A tweet from the Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed stated, “we visited Kabribayah this morning, which is one of many host communities in the Somali Regional State supporting drought affected displaced persons. In the interim, we will scale the provision of water trucks, food, animal feed and essential medicines.”
During the visit, the PM Abiy, President Omar, and other officials are planning on overseeing areas with the utmost drought effects.
The visit arises after an urgent request for civilian’s aid during the droughts peak period, was sent by President Mustafa Omar to the Government of Ethiopia. Districts which come under the Somalia regional; have been in droughts debacle for the past few months.
