Puntland lawmakers hold cabinet ministers accountable

Garowe (SD) – The Puntland House of Representatives Committee tasked with reviewing and analyzing complaints filed by the House of Representatives with the Puntland Road Development Agency and the Puntland Procurement and Sales Agency met with these agencies today.

The committee met with the leaders of the Road Development Agency and the DPL Contracts and Sales Agency at the House of Representatives to find out more about their Complaints about not receiving the fees set out in their rules and performing their duties.

The committee asked questions about the work of these agencies and the existence of complaints submitted to the House of Representatives. The committee will report back to the 5th session of the Puntland House of Representatives.

The Puntland House of Representatives’ Interior Committee, Local Government and Rural Development met with Minister of Interior, Federalism and Democracy Mohamed Abdirahman Dhabancad at the House of Representatives.

The Minister of Interior, Federalism and Democracy of Puntland reported on the Ministry’s work, plans, progress from June to September 2020 as well as challenges.

Minster Dhabancad was also questioned the matters discussed, the Committee indicated that it would work with the Ministry and their roles and responsibilities in resolving the challenges it faces.

Puntland Home Affairs Committee, local Government and Rural Development of the Puntland House of Representatives meeting with the Minister is part of the work of the Puntland House of Representatives to oversee the country’s executive branch.

The practice of holding officials accountable is not common in various Somali governments, that is why this move has been welcomed by many and is expected to be emulated by other Somali parliamentarians in the Horn of Africa region.
