Puntland President holds a virtual meetings with the International Community

Kismayo (SD) – Jubbaland State President Ahmed Mohamed Islam attended a United Nations organized meeting discussing various issues related to the country’s political process and its challenges.

The virtual meeting was attended by United Nations Ambassador to Somalia James Swan, EU Ambassador to Somalia Nicolas Berlanga Martinez, Ambassadors of the UK, Norway, Sweden, Germany, the African Union Mission in Somalia, and the representatives and leaders of relevant organizations in Somalia.

The meeting focused on preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the region were some had died, the attendees also discussed holding the upcoming federal elections on time and safe.

There were no details of the parties proposed suggestions for discussed topics.

On the other hand, the Somali federal government has declined to attend the virtual meeting, as it does not recognize Ahmed Madobe’s presidency.

Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre, previously attended similar meetings in which the Puntland and Hirshabelle leaders have had with the international community, but declined to participate in this latest one.
