Puntland President warns against regional conflicts

GAROWE (SD)-Puntland President Said Deni has criticized the recent map released by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), describing it as an attempt to instigate new conflicts, particularly in the Mudug region.

He warned that this action could provoke tension, despite Puntland and Galmudug being neighboring regions that work cooperatively and have no border disputes.

The Federal Government’s map labels certain areas in northern Mudug, as well as Sool and Sanaag regions, as “disputed territories.”

The map, reportedly also used on a recent Turkish ship, conducting oil searches in Somalia reflects the FGS’s perspective on these areas: it indicates that Sool and Sanag are contested between Puntland and Somaliland, while northern Mudug is shown as disputed between Puntland and Galmudug.

This release has sparked concerns over regional stability and the interpretation of territorial claims in Somalia.
