SNA and Jubaland forces repel AS attack

KISMAYU (SD)-Somali National Army (SNA) forces, in collaboration with Jubaland’s Darwish forces, successfully thwarted a coordinated Al-Shabaab attack this morning on a military base in an area called Sariiraha near Jannay Abdalle, outside Kismayo.

The attack began with an explosion followed by heavy gunfire aimed at a checkpoint guarded by the forces, leading to a prolonged firefight.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohamud Abdi Ilmoge, the commander of the second brigade of Darwish forces, reported that they had prior intelligence on the attack and managed to prevent it.

He stated that the forces inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers and are currently pursuing the remaining fighters who fled the scene.

This is one of several recent instances where SNA and Jubaland forces have successfully repelled planned attacks by Al-Shabaab, causing substantial losses to the militant group in the process.
