Puntland reshuffle causes a rift between the President and his deputy

Garowe (SD) – Reports from Garowe indicate that a dispute has emerged between Puntland President Said Deni and his deputy Ahmed Karash, based on a proposed Cabinet reshuffle.

According to sources who declined to be named told somalidispatch.com that the dispute relates to the appointment of ministers from Sool region, which the vice president wants to be based on his recommendations.

The source adds that the meeting between the two men abruptly ended after President Deni rejected the request from the vice president, demanding that the Ministry of Interior be returned to the Sool region.

The ministry was previously led by a cabinet member from Sool region, but President Deni appointed a minster from Mudug to the post .

The disagreement between the two officials has led in delaying today’s anticipated announcement of the cabinet reshuffle.

There is no official announcement of the reshuffle or the reported dispute from the Puntland government yet.
