Garowe (SD) – Puntland reversed its decision to close mosques yesterday by the Coronavirus infection control committee.
Minister of Justice Awil Sheikh Hamud said the closure of the mosque would be one of the last steps to take if the disease comes to Puntland.
Sheikh Mohamed Godane Hosh, a Puntland Religious scholar, told the BBC that he and the Ministry of Justice had agreed to work together, declining to close the mosques.
The Scholar’s comment comes as Puntland regional administration announce Mosques will be close for two weeks, in efforts to curb the Covid-19 virus.
“We have agreed to work together in accordance with Islamic law. We have never agreed on anything that is against Islamic law. The mosques will be the last places will be considered for closer when it’s time. Firstly, we educate people, close toilets, shorten time at the mosque, a short sermon on Friday prayer.” Said the Sheik.
On the other hand, Puntland has opened an outpatient clinic for people infected with Coronavirus today on the outskirts of Garowe.
