Puntland severs relations with Feds

Garoowe January 09, 2023 (SD) – Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni addressed the issues he rejected at the National Consultative Forum that took place in Mogadishu.

President Deni accused the federal government of Somalia of pursuing a plan to weaken the federal system.

President Deni said that the two items he recently rejected to sign were contrary to the country’s federal system and resembled attempts by the federal government to seize power.

President Deni said that the plan also includes the adoption of the constitution without discussing the issue of Somaliland and granting Somaliland control over the Sool region.

An official statement from the Puntland government released today stated that Puntland will act as an independent government until the completion of the provisional federal constitution of Somalia.

This statement from Puntland shows that it has directly terminated its rocky relationship with Villa Somalia. The Federal system and the current constitution of Somalia, which was established in Puntland but is disputed by Somalis in various ways, is not clear on how it can resolve the complicated issues facing the governance of Somalia.
