GAROWE (SD) -The opposition umbrella in Puntland has today released a new election schedule for the disputed upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections in Puntland.

According to the statement from the Puntland opposition umbrella, the presidential and vice-presidential elections are scheduled to take place on January 8, 2024.

The released schedule also indicates that by December 31, the list of new parliamentarians will be finalized, with the registration of new parliamentary candidates beginning on December 5.

On January 1, the parliamentarians will take their oath of office, and on January 4, the election of the speaker of the Puntland parliament will be held, as outlined in the opposition’s newly released election timetable.

This election schedule by the opposition comes in response to the Puntland Electoral Commission’s schedule which set the elections for the Presidency and the Puntland Parliament for February 25, 2024.

This development further adds to the political tension in Garowe over the dispute concerning the election process.
