SAAB TV reporter arrested in Hargeisa for exposing Police Brutality

Hargeisa (SD) – News from Hargeisa indicate that the Somaliland police arrested journalist Ali Fahad Jama, of SAAB TV for unspecified reason today.

Keyse Ahmed Digale, editor of SAAB TV confirmed the arrest of the journalist in Hargeisa but didn’t give any details of his arrest.

Although the reason for his arrest has not been confirmed, some sources say the journalist was arrested for a Facebook post about police officers on his Face Book.

“It is in the Isha Borama neighborhood of Hargeisa, and this car was hit by a police truck which then fled the scene, the car was partially destroyed and the driver of the car is in a coma, part of the ongoing police brutality”. Wrote the reporter on a his Facebook page.

The arrest flies in the face of the country’s guaranteed individual constitutional rights and freedom of speech.

Somaliland is cracking down on social media posts it deems unfavorable news these days.

This latest arrest comes just a day later when journalist Oldon was released from Jail for an alleged illegal social media post.
