NY December 22, 2022 (SD) – The UN Security Council approved a request from Africa to delay this month’s planned reduction of 2,000 ATMIS troops until June 30, 2023. Resolution No. 2670 (2022),
The Security Council also affirmed the adoption of a gradual strategic approach, in keeping with the ATMIS withdrawal schedule of 31 December 2024.
The Security Council asked the Somali government to prepare a report by April 30, 2023, which includes a new plan to build a national army.
The UN resolution calls for an official conference to discuss the changes in Somalia by March 31, 2023, which will be attended by Somalia, the African Union, the European Union, and troop-contributing countries.
