Somali Intergovernmental Academy Language unveiled in Mogadishu

Mogadishu December 29, 2022 (SD) – The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, together with his Djiboutian counterpart, Ismail Omar Guelleh, and the Kenyan Minister of Defence Adan Bare Duale today unveiled the Somali Language Intergovernmental Academy in Mogadishu.

The President of Somalia urged Somali artists to strengthen their role in public awareness he said the Academy will guide Somali literature, language, and culture.

The President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, who also spoke at the event, noted the benefits of Mogadishu the Somali Language Intergovernmental Academy and the effort his government spent on its construction, calling it integral to the preservation of the unity and solidarity of all Somali people.

The Kenyan Minister of Defense, Aden Barre Duale, who also participated in the opening ceremony of the Somali Intergovernmental language Academy, reiterated the importance of the center for Somalis living in the Horn of Africa.

The Somali language, once one of the most important and richest languages in the Horn of Africa, has been in decline since the collapse of the Somali government.
