Somali lawmakers condemn the illegal seizure of public land in Mogadishu by government officials.

MOGADISHU (SD) – Members of both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia have issued a press statement opposing what they describe as the looting of public land in Mogadishu.

The 97 lawmakers warned Somali businesses against purchasing public land, accusing government officials of illegally seizing it.

“As Members of both Houses of the Somali Parliament, fulfilling our constitutional duty, we declare our stance against the looting of public property and warn those facilitating Villa Somalia’s unlawful appropriation of public land,” the statement read.

This is the second statement issued by these lawmakers, reaffirming their opposition to the alleged illegal seizure of public property.

Additionally, the MPs accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud—who has a background in education—of selling off large portions of land previously designated for educational purposes.

“The President, despite his educational background, has sold off land that once served as learning institutions for Somali students, including the Somali National University, Ilays School, and many others, showing no regard for the future of Somali youth,” the statement added.
