Mogadishu (SD) – Somali parliamentarians representing Gedo region held a press conference in Mogadishu today condemning an alleged attack by Kenyan forces on civilians in Gedo region.
The lawmakers spoke specifically about the killing and wounding of civilians by Kenyan forces in Yadoo area of Elwak town.
The press conference followed reports from Elwaq district in Gedo region saying that Kenyan troops have killed civilians in Yadoo village, 25km northeast of Elwaq.
Speaking at the press conference, lawmaker Hashim Nur Aden said the incident was carried out by Kenyan troops, who are not part of the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia.
Speaking at the forum, MP Dahir Jesow said that Kenya has always been a causing problem in Jubaland, but they intend to investigate the latest incident.
Barre Qorane Duale, a local traditional leader, said Kenyan forces in three vehicles raided a house in Yadoo area where the killed youths were staying.
He said the attack resulted in the death of his son and the wounding of two others, as well as the abduction of three youths, including his nephew.
The Chief said the youths were pastoralists and ruled out any links to al-Shabaab.
There have been no reports of Kenyan troops in the border areas, there has been reports of several Kenyan army airstrikes killing in the region killing civilians.
