Somali National Army intercepted drone used by Al-Shabaab

MUQDISHU (SD) -The Somali National Army announced yesterday that they have intercepted small drone believed to have been used by Al-Shabaab.

The intercepted drone, which are small and appear to be used for surveillance purposes, was shot down when it attempted to enter military airspace in the outskirts of Wajid district in Bakol region.

It’s reported that the drone was equipped with small cameras and could potentially be used for reconnaissance missions.

It’s still unclear where Al-Shabaab acquired these drones, although recent raids conducted by Mogadishu Airport security revealed military-grade electronic equipment, including night-vision goggles and suspected surveillance drones, among the cargo.
