Somali Oud King Dies in London

London (SD) – Somali singer and songwriter Ahmed Ismail Hussein, known as Hudeidi, the Oud king, has died in London, UK, where he has been ill for the past few days.

He was diagnosed with Coronavirus, which forced him to spend weeks in a London hospital.

Hudeidi became the third prominent Somali victim of Coronavirus in London after Abdulkadir Mohamed Farah, a former player and coach, and former Somali Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein Nur Adde.

Ahmed Hudeydi, who has died at the age of 92, has been a well-known composer of Somali songs and playing Oud for over 70 years.

Hudeidi group up in Aden, Yemen, also got introduced to Oud by Yemenis and was later thought by another Somali musical Legend Abdilahi Karshe.

Somalis everywhere are saddened by Hudeidi’s death and are sending their condolences to his family and friends.
