Somali UN Ambassador to the UN criticized UNSOM, calls for change

New York (SD) – Somalia’s ambassador to the United Nations Abukar Dahir Osman “Abukar Baalle” has strongly criticized the UNSOM office in Somalia and its operations in the country.

Abukar Baalle, who addressed the UN Security Council meeting on the extension of UNSOM’s mandate in Somalia, accused the UN office of being too responsive to only the latest situations, lacking the capacity to provide proactive political and technical support, lacking the capacity to provide political and technical support to key agendas for the reconstruction of Somalia.

The Ambassador also called for the UN Secretary-General quarterly reports of on Somalia to include briefings to not just detail specific events, but be more focused on analyzing big issues, offering recommendations and conclusions.
