Somalia: al Shabab attacks ATMIS in Buulo Mareer

BUULO MAREER (SD) -A clash occurred yesterday between troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS),  and Al-Shabaab militants in Buulo-mareer in the Lower Shabelle region.

Reports indicate that the conflict between the two sides began with a predawn attack by Al-Shabaab fighters who targeted the ATMIS base in Buulo-mareer.

Casualties have been reported from the clash, although details about the extent of the damage are not readily available.Troops from ATMIS and those from the Federal Government are currently conducting security operations jointly in the city of Buulo-mareer in the Lower Shabelle region.

The situation is currently tense following the recent attack in Buulo-Mareer.

Notably, in May of this year (2023), Al-Shabaab launched an attack on a military base belonging to ATMIS forces from Uganda stationed in Buulo-mareer.

The attack involved heavy fighting and resulted in the death of 70 Ugandan troops and the capture of numerous ATMIS vehicles
