MOGADISHU(SD) -Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, has announced that the IGAD delegation, led by Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu, discussed the ongoing tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia.
Speaking to the media, Minister Fiqi stated that the IGAD delegation arrived in Mogadishu following an invitation extended by the Federal Government of Somalia to hold specific discussions with the country’s senior leadership.
The minister highlighted that the discussions with Dr. Workneh’s delegation focused on the underlying issues of the tension between Somalia and Ethiopia, specifically the illegal agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Minister Fiqi also mentioned that the delegation and Somali officials agreed to establish a Blue Economy center under the auspices of IGAD in Somalia. This center aims to leverage Somalia’s extensive coastline, one of the longest in Africa, to benefit all countries in the region.
The IGAD delegation also held various meetings with Somalia’s top officials, including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, during their visit to Mogadishu.
