MOGADISHU (SD) – The commanders of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Somali National Army have concluded a five-day conference, agreeing to form a joint technical team to implement the new ATMIS operational rules.
The joint team will also include United Nations officials working on the implementation of the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) which will be replacing AMISOM starting from 1st of April.
The Minister of Defense of Somalia Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur said the achievements of AMISOM since its initiation of operating in Somalia in 2007 should continue to increase by ATMIS as the Somali Security Forces prepare to take over the responsibility for the security in Somalia from ATMIS in 2024.
Minister Abdulkadir said “the government is more committed than ever to ensure that Somali security Forces advance, are well-equipped and also meet the requirements of CONOPS and to meet the requirements of the transition plan for Somalia as well”.
The Minister called for increased integration of Forces that come under ATMIS, so that the local community can witness the positive impact of the peacekeeping on their daily lives, as well as help work with the forces for peace and stability in Somalia.
