MOGADISHU (SD) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, chaired a one-day working meeting attended by 60 officials and experts from federal government institutions and United Nations agencies operating in Somalia.
The meeting was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN Transition Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS). Its purpose was to prepare a detailed timeline for the transition of political office tasks from UNTMIS to the Federal Government of Somalia and UN agencies over the past year.
In his remarks, the Minister expressed gratitude for the UN’s role in Somalia’s state-building efforts. He highlighted that the Somali government has made significant progress in various areas and that its priorities have shifted. He noted that once the two-year transition period concludes, the UN and all organizations operating in Somalia will base their programs and projects on the National Transition Plan (NTP).
The Minister urged the participants to ensure the transition period is managed reasonably and systematically, with each task carefully assessed and assigned to the appropriate government institution at the right time.
The event was also attended by Ambassador James Swan, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General.
