Somalia and the US discuss enhancing security

MOGADISHU (SD)-The Commander of the Somali Police Force, Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi, met today with Flannery Robert, the Counterterrorism Advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Somalia.

The meeting focused on strengthening the security cooperation between the two allied countries, Somalia and the United States, as stated in a press release from the police command.

The discussions also concentrated on the federal government’s plans and the international partners’ efforts to eradicate terrorism and enhance the capabilities of the Somali police force.

The new Commander of the Somali Police Force, Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi (Diyano), who recently assumed office, has been holding meetings with international partners supporting Somalia in security matters.

Having previously worked in military affairs, the new commander is expected to bring reforms and continue fulfilling the responsibilities required of the Somali police.

The most pressing issues currently include addressing the security situation in the capital, which frequently experiences attacks by Al-Shabaab, and improving the police force’s overall effectiveness.
