Mogadishu (SD) – A ceremony commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) was held in Mogadishu today.

The event was jointly organized by the Somali Ministries of Women and Health and was attended by Minister of Women Hanifa Mohamed Ibrahim, women’s organizations and other officials from the two Ministries.

Somalia is one of the countries where young girls are still being circumcised.

February 6 is International Female Genital Mutilation Awareness Day. The theme for this year is that the world has no time left, we must unite to end the practice of female genital mutilation.
