NY (SD) -The Somali government has lodged a complaint with the United Nations Security Council regarding Ethiopian troops who have unlawfully entered Somalia, crossing their national border.
In the meeting addressing Somalia’s security situation, attended by UN officials and representatives from the African Union, Somalia’s Ambassador Abukar Osman Baalle accused Ethiopian government forces of illegal border crossing.
Ambassador Abukar Baale stated at the meeting that these troops had crossed into Somalia illegally.
The Somali government insists that Ethiopian forces be the first to withdraw from Somalia as part of the ATMIS withdrawal plan.
The tension between Somalia and Ethiopia has significantly escalated since early this year when Ethiopia signed a maritime agreement with the Somaliland administration. The Somali government strongly condemned Ethiopia’s plan, leading to a diplomatic dispute between the two countries.
