Somalia confirms 20 new COVID-19 cases, three more deaths

Mogadishu (SD) – Somali Ministry of Health confirmed twenty new Coronavirus cases and three more deaths in Somalia. The total number of COVID 19 cases raised to 80 patients.

Since February 1st a COVID-19 case was reported in Somalia, the Coronavirus has been spreading fast, leading the government to suspend international, national flight as well as public gatherings. in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.

On 19th April 2020, Mogadishu mayor claimed COVID-19 cases and death in Somalia is higher than the reported numbers by the ministry of health.

The government of Somalia on Tuesday March 19 2020 announced 5 million dollar budget to support the fight against Coronavirus infection following $7 million aid package by the U.S. government.

On 7th of April 2020, Somalia has received 100,000 USD as a financial contribution from IGAD to fight against COVID 19 infection. A senior liaison officer for the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development Office in Mogadishu, Jamal Ahmed handed over the check to Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohamed Ali-Nur Haji.
