Mogadisho Feb 04, 2023 (SD) – Former Somali politicians including Prime Ministers, parliamentary speakers, ministers, and Somali intellectuals have called on the federal government of Somalia to clarify its stance on the SSC issue.

In a statement they released, they stated that the Somali government is expected to defend the freedoms and rights of citizens who believe in unity and the nationhood of Somalia as a principle.

They described it as unfortunate that many opportunities were lost in the past 30 years, and that a quick and permanent solution to the secession of Somaliland should have been found through reconciliation and reunification of the country.

They stated that the people of Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn should not be persecuted for their views and feelings on the issue of Somali nationality.

They suggested that special emphasis be given to ensuring genuine representation that is balanced and reflects different positions, to create a confident and trusting atmosphere that can result in mutual agreement.
