MOGADISHU (SD) – The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a statement on the political tension between the governments of the United States and China.
The federal government of Somalia has fully supported the “One China” policy at a time when a strong tension has erupted between the United States and China over the island of Taiwan.
The tension between China and the United States escalated since the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan.
China’s Foreign Ministry condemned Pelosi’s visit as a “vicious act of provocation,” and said her trip represented “direct interference in China’s internal affairs.”
Taiwan and Somaliland established diplomatic relations last year, opening embassies in Hargeisa and Taipei, which angered Mogadishu and Beijing.
