Somalia Government arrests members of the security agencies who were spies for al-Shabaab

Mogadishu August 04, 2023 (SD) – The Minister of Information of the Somali government, Daud Awes, has stated that intelligence agencies have arrested 10 individuals with direct ties to the Al-Shabaab group.

The Minister of Information gave this statement during a press conference he held in the capital, Mogadishu. He also mentioned that there are other suspects who were apprehended by the military, and they are currently under investigation.

The Minister emphasized that the intelligence agency has been actively working to identify any individuals closely associated with Al-Shabaab and to gather security information.

Among those arrested as Al-Shabaab suspects, the Minister revealed that two of them were prominent figures, Abdissatar Abdulqadir Cise and Ayaanle Mohamed Ali. They were allegedly involved in security-related institutions of the Government.

The Minister of Information further stated that these efforts are part of the government’s ongoing campaign against all elements linked to Al-Shabaab in order to strengthen security and counterterrorism operations.

Regarding the individuals implicated, the Minister did not rule out the possibility that they might be connected to the recent attacks on October 14th, which targeted a large number of government troops.
