MOGADISHU (SD) – A statement issued by the FGS Minister of Defense stated that an investigation is underway into why Kenyan forces are shelling Hormuud Telecom facilities in the Juba and Gedo regions.
A statement from the Somali Ministry of Defense confirmed recent shelling of the company’s headquarters in parts of the Juba and Gedo regions of southern Somalia.
The Somali government said in a statement that it “regrets” any act of violence against Somali citizens, and apologized to Hormuud for any inconvenience caused.
The Ministry of Defense also said it was in contact with AMISOM and other security partners in Somalia to determine the cause of the bombings.
“The Somali government is conducting a formal investigation into these recurring incidents of violence against the Somali people. We thank our friends who are assisting Somalia in its security and development goals,” the statement said.
Kenyan forces occasionally bombard and burn Hormuud’s headquarters in the Gedo region and its headquarters in the Lower Jubba region, which borders Kenya.
