Somalia is upset over President Irro’s participation in the World Governments Summit held in Dubai.

MOGADISHU (SD) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, stated that the Somali government will take measures against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following the participation of Somaliland’s President, Abdirahman Irro, in the World Governments Summit held in Dubai.

“Somaliland is a region of Somalia, and we are seeking dialogue to resolve the issue,” said the Somali Foreign Minister, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, reiterating Mogadishu’s position that Somaliland remains part of Somalia.

Earlier this month, President Irro was invited to a prominent forum at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, where he called on the international community to recognize Somaliland as an independent state.

Initially, Somalia downplayed this visit, comparing it to trips made by leaders of federal member states to the UAE.

However, Foreign Minister Fiqi has now made it clear that the Somali government will not ignore what it perceives as interference in its sovereignty.

“Somalia will not tolerate interference,” he said, adding that the government is taking steps to address the relationship with the UAE. Minister Fiqi did not specify the measures the government intends to take.
