Somalia joins the East African Community

ENTEBBE (SD) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has signed the accession agreement to join the East African Community (EAC) in the city of Entebbe, Uganda.

The occasion of Somalia’s accession to the EAC was attended by officials from various East African Community member states. These officials played a role in formalizing Somalia’s membership and expressed their support for the country’s official inclusion.

It is also reported by state media that President Hassan Sheikh, during his stay in Uganda, will have an extensive meetings with the leaders of the EAC community, where they will discuss matters related to strengthening relations and cooperation between the nations.

Somalia’s inclusion in the East African Community marks a significant diplomatic achievement, and the government has celebrated three important victories in the month of December: joining the East African Community, clearing Somalia’s debt after more than 30 years, and lifting the arms embargo on Somalia, signifying substantial progress for the country.
