Somalia: Journalist Abuja brought before a military court today

Mogadishu (SD) – The case of Somali journalist Mohamed Abdiwahab Nur ‘Abuja’ was heard by a Somali military court today. The journalist is currently detained in Mogadishu for several months.

The court was attended by a small number of members of the media, including Somali media advocates SOMA and SJS, as were members of the family of the journalist and defense lawyers.

After a lengthy court hearing, journalist Abuja was asked what were his expectations of the court’s decision to be, he asked for justice.

The chairman of the Somali Armed Forces court, Hassan Ali Nur Shute, then concluded the hearing saying the court would issue a decision as soon as possible.

Journalist Abuja is the editor of Hiigsi Radio in Mogadishu, and he has been in jail in Mogadishu for almost five months, today was the first time he is brought before a military court.

The Journalist is charged with murder and being a member of Al Shabab.
