MOGADISHU (SD) – The Joint Parliamentary Committees for the Election of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia has today released the 10th Presidential Election Schedule.
The committee of the two houses of the Somali parliament has elected its speaker and deputy speaker and announced the date for the presidential election.
The commission has announced that the long awaited and delayed presidential election will take place on Sunday, May 15th, 2022.
The two houses of the Somali parliament yesterday selected 17 members for the presidential election commission, and electing their chairmanship today.
Senator Abdiqani Geele Mohamed, representing Puntland in the upper house, won the post of Chairman of the Joint Presidential Election Commission after receiving 10 votes, according to the Electoral Commission.
Meanwhile, MP Mohamed Keerow Mohamed won the post of Deputy Chairman of the Joint Presidential Election Commission after receiving 9 votes.
The Presidential election was supposed to take place a year and three months ago, but after a long running political dispute, an election date is now set, hopefully ending the political crisis in the country.
