Somalia: Parents face increased child abduction fears

Mogadishu (SD) – Reports of more abductions of children in the country’s capital Mogadishu is reportedly causing anxiety among parents.

This fear was exacerbated after the abduction of children, especially girls, were widely reported and posted on social media.

A 16-year-old girl has been abducted in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, However, there are reports that the girl, identified as Hibo Mohamed Hassan, was found in the town of Guriel in the Galgadud region.

Also there were reports on social media another young woman abducted in Howlwadag district later claimed to have escaped.

“I had my nose covered with a chemical and I fainted. I was taken to a car driven by a woman but the car broke down and I ran away,” said the woman, who said she had escaped from her captors.

Government security agencies have not yet commented on these and other reports of kidnappings and rapes of young people in Mogadishu.
