Somaliland: SOLJA Condemns Arrest of Two Journalists

Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland Journalists Association(SOLJA) has condemned the most recent arrest of two journalists working in Las Anod and in Erigavo.

“The Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) strongly opposes the arrests of Mohamed Shaqale and Said Muse (Qurbawi) in Las Anod and Erigavo.” SOLJA said in released statement.

Adding That “Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) has criticized the SOOL regional security committee for jailing a journalist and remanding him in custody for seven days.”

SOLJA says the arrests of the two journalists were not carried out in a legal manner and that they should be released immediately.

“SOLJA considers the arrest of the two journalists illegal, as it wan not subject to a legal process, and calls on the authorities of the two regions to release the two journalists and have the complainant go through the legal process.” Said SOLJA.

Somaliland authorities continues to ignore the countries Media laws and related international laws to the determent of journalist. The behavior is contrary to the countries democratic and independence aspirations.
