Somalia: Parliament approves the government’s 2025 budget

MOGADISHU(SD)-The members of both houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia held their fifth joint session at the House of the People. The session was chaired by the First Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Sacdiya Yasin Hajji Samatar, along with the deputy speakers of both houses of Parliament.

The agenda of the meeting included the third reading and voting on the government budget allocation for the year 2025, presented to the assembly by the Joint Finance Committee. The third reading of the 2025 budget was shared with the members by MP Abdulqadir Hussein Abdi (Uurdoox), the secretary of the Committee on Budget, Planning, and Oversight of Government Institutions of the House of the People.

Subsequently, the members of both houses of Parliament voted on the government’s 2025 budget using a show of hands. The budget was approved by 172 members, with 2 members opposing and 1 member abstaining.

The Deputy Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdiqafar Elmi Hange, and the Chairman of the Budget, Finance, Planning, and Oversight Committee of the House of the People, MP Mohamed Farah Nuh, expressed their gratitude to the members of both houses of Parliament for approving the 2025 budget.
