Somalia: PM Hamza urges Islamic Clerks to Fight Extremism

MOGADISHU (SD) -The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, who today opened a conference discussing the role of religious leaders in promoting peace and reconciliation, emphasized that Somali religious leaders play a crucial role in countering the destruction of society and Al-Shabaab’s extremist ideology.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of Somali intellectuals defending their country and promoting anti-extremist ideas.

Hamza Barre highlighted that the various challenges facing Somalia can be overcome through full-fledged cooperation involving the public, religious leaders, elders, and the government.

The PM strongly urged religious leaders to contribute to reconciliation, unity, governance, and the completion of the Constitution.

The Prime Minister stated that Al-Shabaab poses a threat in various areas, including the military, economy, and ideology, which has resulted in the suffering of many Somali regions and communities that are struggling.

The conference, held at the Research and Studies Center, was attended by government officials, scholars, Somali intellectuals, and delegations from Arab countries and international organizations.
