Somalia: Puntland Warns the Federal Government Of Extending its Term

Garowe (SD) – Puntland regional government of Somalia has today warned the Federal Government in postponing elections, as the country is deciding the kind of elections to hold.

The Minister of Interior and also a member of the Puntland Technical Election Advisory Committee, Mohamed Abdirahman Dhabancad, described it as unfortunate that the government was considering extending its mandate at the end of its term.

“They didn’t serve the country for 4 year, now that its time to leave, they want an extension, its very unfortunate”, said the minister.

The Minister made the remarks as Puntland celebrated its 22nd anniversary today.

Minister Dhabancad, called on the leaders of the federal government to work towards holding of elections in the country for the remainder of their term.

The Somali federal Government is insisting on holding one person one in the country, since that is not possible in the country, critics insist on holding parliamentary vote instead.
