Somalia: The opposition forum issued a stern warning to Villa Somalia, yet again

Mogadishu (SD) – A statement from the National Parties Forum warned President Farmajo after the Somali cabinet approved the formation of a Petroleum Authority and the addition of new members to the Judicial Council.

The seven-point statement from the Forum in part said, “The Forum is deeply concerned about the illegal actions taken by the Care taker Federal Government at its Cabinet meeting on 30/07/2020. Constitutional agencies such as the Judicial Service Agency and the Somali Petroleum Authority. ”

The statement added, “The forum calls on the leadership of the Federal Government of Somalia and the Council of Ministers to respect and uphold the laws of the land, especially during this time of transition, which, if not recognized, could lead to constitutional conflict and political instability.”

This is not the first time that the Somali opposition has raised constitutional concerns over the Federal Governments actions, these days, stakeholders are keeping a close eye on the governments actions as they relate to elections.

Its was last week when the country’s PM was sacked due to what is believed to be an election related dispute with Villa Somalia.
