Somalia records 10 new deaths, 245 cases

MOGADISHU (SD) – Ten more people have died of COVID-19 in Somalia in the latest 48 hours, bringing the national death toll to 678.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health said it has recorded 245 cases of coronavirus for the last 48 hours after testing 1,671 samples across the nation.

The majority of the cases-111 were recorded in Puntland followed by Somaliland with 78 cases.

Jubbaland came third with 15 cases while HirShabelle and Banaadir region had 14 cases each.  Galmudug registered 13 cases.

Somalia has now recorded 13,324 COVID-19 cases since the global pandemic landed in the country in March 2020.

A further 5518 people have since recovered from the disease

Last week, Somalia received 200,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine donated by China to boost the war against COVID-19 pandemic in the Horn of African State.

Somalia’s health ministry also rolled out doses of Sinopharm vaccine last week.
