Somalia: Shabaab Claims to have attacked U.S. and Danab forces

Mogadishu July 11, 2023 (SD) – The Al Shabaab group claimed responsibility for a suicide attack targeting a vehicle allegedly carrying explosive materials that exploded near a convoy of American troops in the outskirts of Afmadow district.

Al Shabaab stated that the attack occurred in the vicinity of the Afmadow district in the Jubaland region and resulted in casualties among American soldiers and Somali government forces.

According to Al Shabaab, the coordinated attack took place on the outskirts of Afmadow, where a convoy of American troops and members of the Danab special forces were targeted.

They claimed that the Mujahideen forces carried out a significant attack today, Tuesday, targeting a convoy of American soldiers and government forces stationed on the outskirts of Afmadow in the Lower Jubba region.

Al Shabaab also stated that the explosion caused extensive damage, but they did not confirm the exact number of casualties resulting from the coordinated attack near Afmadow.

The United States forces in Africa AFRICOM and the Somali government have denied the casualties caused by the coordinated attack claimed by Al Shabaab, which targeted a convoy of American troops carrying explosive materials today.
