Galcad July 19, 2023 (SD) – The Somali National Army reportedly launched a planned military operation in the Ceel-qurac area located between the regions of Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle.

The 18th Division Commander of the Gorgor Commandos, Bashir Abdullahi, told state media today that the troops encountered a fierce resistance from Al-Shabaab militants during the operation.

The Commander mentioned that more than 30 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the operation, while the Somali forces sustained some casualties as well.

He further explained that the national army troops successfully liberated the Ceel-qurac area from Al-Shabaab control, and they are currently conducting clearance operations against remaining Al-Shabaab elements.

A few days ago, the government forces initiated a military offensive targeting Shabaab-affiliated militants in the lower areas of Galgaduud, particularly around the city of Galcad. The operations conducted by the government forces have witnessed significant gains against Al-Shabaab.
