MOGADISHU (SD) -The Federal Government of Somalia has released a press statement expressing concern over the measures taken by Somaliland against individuals who opposed the maritime agreement signed by President Muse Bihi with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abey Ahmed.
According to the statement from the Somali Ministry of Information, the Somaliland authorities have reportedly intimidated, harassed, and imprisoned journalists and citizens who expressed opposition to the Ethiopia-Somaliland agreement.
The Somali government added that Somaliland’s crackdown on its citizens is an infringement on their freedom of expression and warns that such actions may escalate tensions among the Somali people.
Additionally, Somalia has sent a stern warning to security agencies in Somaliland, urging them to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions and jeopardize the well-being of the affected individuals.
